Culture

Punjab’s cultural identity is rooted in strong family ties, hospitality, and an enduring belief in communal well-being. These traditions shape public expectations for healthcare, where people value both modern treatment and traditional remedies passed down through generations. The demand for free access to medicine and healthcare services reflects not just economic realities but also Punjab’s cultural emphasis on collective care and social responsibility.

In the 2024–25 fiscal year, the Punjab government allocated about USD 1.83 billion to healthcare, including around USD 186 million for free outpatient medicines and USD 183 million for universal health insurance coverage. This marks a significant year-on-year increase in healthcare spending, demonstrating how the province is working to match its cultural ethos of compassion and accessibility with tangible investment in modern medical infrastructure and public health services.
